Definitive guidelines by the Sentencing Guidelines Council aim to help those sentencing under new offences introduced by the Fraud Act 2006, which provides maximum sentences of up to 10 years imprisonment. The guidance, which applies from October 26, 2009, aims to produce a coherent and consistent approach to sentencing all forms of fraudulent behaviour and supersedes previous guidance which has been reviewed in the light of subsequent changes to the sentencing framework, particularly those in the Criminal Justice Act 2003.
